Bargersville Says Umbarger Plaza is on Schedule for Completion this Fall
Umbarger Plaza, the much-anticipated new gathering space in downtown Bargersville, is on track for its scheduled completion this fall.
"Umbarger Plaza is on schedule. While the construction is on schedule for completion this fall, the area will initially be closed to give the grass and plantings time to establish before usage," said. Kris Wilson, Director of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Bargersville.
"We are excited to have a small venue area for concerts and other events downtown while providing a space for individuals to gather and socialize."
Bargersville’s already popular summer concert series will have a new venue when construction is complete. The plaza will feature an amphitheater, public restrooms, and green space designed to serve as a central hub for community events.
“The Bargersville Summer Concert Series has been a great addition to the Town events,” said Wilson. “We are excited about the 2025 Concert Series, which will move over to Umbarger Plaza. Concerts will again be on Thursday evenings but will increase to two hours (7pm – 9pm) and will have a total of 7 summer concerts.”
The $2 million project, located east of the railroad tracks and southwest of Old Plank Road and Baldwin Street, broke ground in November of last year in a ceremony attended by town officials and members of the Umbarger family.
The property, which was transferred to the town by Roy Umbarger & Sons Inc. in January 2022, holds deep historical significance for the Bargersville community. The land was previously home to the family’s feed business, which operated at the site for generations before relocating to a new, larger facility in Franklin.
While the public eagerly awaits the opening of the plaza, officials emphasize the importance of allowing the newly planted grass and landscaping to establish before the space is fully opened for community use.
The plaza is expected to become a central feature of Bargersville’s growing downtown. Visit the Town of Bargersville’s website for information on community events and updates on projects like Umbarger Plaza.
