Franciscan Health to Host Virtual Diabetes Prevention Program
Franciscan Health will be hosting a virtual diabetes prevention program online, starting in July.
The program will meet weekly to discuss lifestyle changes to prevent type 2 diabetes. The program follows guidelines recommended by the Center For Disease Control (CDC) that are proven to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. Groups meet for 16 weekly sessions and six monthly follow up sessions with a trained lifestyle coach.
To qualify for the program, participants must be 18 years of age or older and have a body mass index (BMI) of 25 and have no previous diagnosis of type 1 or type 2 diabetes and be diagnosed with prediabetes (fasting glucose of 100-125 mg/dl or A1c of 5.7-6.4 within the last 12 months) or have had a previous diagnosis of gestational diabetes.
Participants must also have a screening that shows results of high risk for type 2 diabetes on the prediabetes risk assessment.
This is a distance learning class – participants will need access to a computer, tablet or smartphone to attend the class.
An information session will be held on Tuesday, July 2 at 5 p.m. Eastern.

The cost of the year-long program is $99. Registration is required and space is limited. To register for the class and for more information contact Amy Lambert at amy.lambert@franciscanalliance.org.
