Franklin College announced that it has welcomed the largest class of new students in recent history.

354 new students arrived on the Franklin College campus on Wednesday, Aug. 21 to begin Welcome Week activities. The Class of 2028 is also among the most academically accomplished in recent years and the most geographically diverse in the college’s history.

"We are experiencing an extraordinary burst of institutional momentum, in spite of the demographic headwinds facing higher education," said Franklin College President Kerry N. Prather. "This enrollment growth is a testament to an industrious and innovative faculty and staff who deliver a transformational student experience that includes immersive learning opportunities and an emphasis on digital fluency. The value and quality of a Franklin College education are clearly resonating with prospective students and their families.”

Here are additional details about the class as currently known:

  • Cultural and geographic diversity are prominent characteristics of the class. Students come from 14 different states and internationally from 13 different countries.
  • Business, exercise science, biology and psychology are currently their top four choices of major, while mathematics and a new program in software engineering experienced the greatest increase in interest.
  • Outside the classroom, they are most interested in Greek life, study-away experiences and athletics. Nearly 200 of the students plan to be involved in one or more of the college’s Division III athletic programs.
  • Twenty-four students are legacies, meaning they have relatives who are Franklin College alumni.

“There is definitely a buzz about Franklin College among prospective students and their families,” said Andy Hendricks, vice president for enrollment and marketing. “Between new academic program development, the wealth of athletic and extracurricular experiences available, and the unique setting of a great college town within 30 minutes of Indianapolis, students see opportunities at Franklin that are truly distinctive.”

Returning students will move-in over the weekend, with classes beginning for all on Monday, Aug. 26.
